Chuppa: The Wedding Canopy
Director: Laurie Zemelman, Sascha Schneider, Laurie Zemelman Schneider
Helma and Benno fell in love in a concentration camp. When the camp collapsed, the pair began living in the Russian forest during the final years of World War II. Along the way, they never had a chance to have a traditional Jewish wedding, which requires that the couple stand beneath a cloth canopy called a chuppa. Half a century later, this documentary follows Helma and Benno as they relate their heartrending story while preparing for their much-delayed wedding.
