Basil in Blunderland (V)
Despite a title that brings to mind cartoon or storybook images, this film is actually about such serious religious topics as prayer and holding on to one’s faith during difficult times. Cardinal Basil Hume shares his thoughts about the importance of incorporating prayer into each person’s daily life. He also discusses what it’s like to experience doubts about one’s religious beliefs and describes what he believes existence is like after physical death. All of this is presented in a format that indicates it’s intended for children (perhaps ages 10 and up). Apart from the fairly uncompelling opening monologue, the film follows Cardinal Basil through a day where he’s shown interacting with children playing various games. He uses their games to try and draw analogies between things the children experience during them and various religious teachings.
