Britain’s Far Flung Battle Line
Britain’s Far Flung Battle Line was released in the United States by Official Government Pictures, an organization overseen by American financier William K. Vanderbilt, who previously sponsored the American distribution of Charles Urban’s Battle of the Somme. Running approximately 45 minutes, the film devoted much of its early footage to newsreel shots of Britain’s King George V conversing with the admiralty and looking on admiringly as such battleships as the Queen Elizabeth, the Yarmouth, and the Chester sailed majestically past his reviewing stand. Also highlighted were scenes of the Royal Flying Corps, heading to and returning from a raid on enemy-held territory. The audience was then whisked off to the Italian front, thence to Palestine, and finally the Western Front, where British “tommies” and Canadian “doughboys” were seen rounding up German prisoners. All profits accrued by Britain’s Far Flung Battle Line were donated to various War Relief funds.
