Starkiss – Circusmeisjes in India
Director: Jascha Wilde, Chris Relleke, Jascha de Wilde
Founded in 1924, India’s popular Great Rayman Circus travels the country. Many of its performers are children, effectively sold by their families for five years of labor in return for an advance payment. This documentary focuses on the homesick young girls who regularly perform three times a day, most of whom are recruited from Nepal. When not working, the girls are strictly supervised, not allowed to talk to men or do anything without asking permission first.
